About the event

One of our favorite places to visit.

Wear comfortable walking shoes, as there will be a lot of walking. (Wear those step counters!)

Please arrive and check-in with your CCHSA event host between 9:15 and 9:30am. Our final group check-in is scheduled at 9:30am.

Our first activity will be the train ride. We do not have an exact time for the train ride to begin, but we will be the very first train ride of the day, so we will line up immediately after check-in.

Bring a picnic lunch. We will meet under the pavilion to eat.

Watch for details on schedules to be updated next week.

Once we have final participation numbers, we will update the event page with rotation schedule details.

We will rotate through four activity stations:

  • Dugout Canoes/Build a Better Boat: Students will have an opportunity to learn about early indigenous dugout canoes and how water based transportation has evolved over time. Students will also learn about the boat making process, and will participate in an activity that explores how various forces and factors affect the sailing/carrying process.
  • Wright Flyer and Wind Tunnels: Students will discuss the history of aviation as it pertains to the Wright Brother. Afterwards, students will participate in a hands on wind tunnel activity to further explore how various forces and factors affect flight.
  • Steam Locomotive Science: Students will discuss the history of steam power/steam locomotives. Students will have the opportunity to see the inside the cab of a steam locomotive, learn about various working roles, and discuss the importance of natural resources such as goal for transportation.
  • Transportation Jeopardy: A fun activity for students to engage in to test their transportation knowledge.
