Emerald Hollow Mine offers an Earth Science Tour/Educational Program which will bring your classroom lessons to life. The students will see the reality of past earth movements, such as plate tectonics which caused gemstones to be formed in hydrothermal veins in the earth. They will learn about soil and erosion while surface mining an active surface mine. Everyone will go Creekin’ (panning the creek bed for gems and gold). We will learn to wash “gem-bearing ore” at the sluiceway to find gemstone treasures. This program is tailored to meet the educational level of all students. It is approximately 1hr 45 min long. 

Parents and students are $20 each; 3 and under are free. 

Please plan to arrive at 10:45, as our program will begin at 11am.

Other Important Information:

• Bring a picnic lunch. We will eat immediately after the program (12:30-1:00 ish) You may want to have a snack before you arrive at 10:45. 
• Bring a large plastic container or heavy-duty Ziploc bag with your child’s name for gemstone collection. (we keep everything we find) 
• Wear old play clothes and shoes – plan on getting wet and dirty! Water shoes would be great for the creek mining. 
• Bring a change of clothes and shoes, and maybe a hand towel to dry your feet after Creekin’.
• If the weather warrants it, sunscreen and bug spray are also good to bring along. Lemon grass spray works very well to ward off bugs.  
• Parking space is limited. Please carpool if possible.

You may stay all afternoon and mine again afterwards; creek mining is no additional cost; there is  for an additional fee for sluicing: bucket of ore is $5 / a super bucket is $15.
